CAS Introduction to Lay Ministry: The BASIC Course

This course is foundational for all courses in lay servant ministries. Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members. This is the foundation for all other learning and lay leadership courses where you are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended. Participants are invited to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship. The course offers guidelines for best practices as a church leader in mission and ministry in the community and in daily life. CAS UM Policty: Advanced Course
Friday, March 13 @ 6:30 PM, and Saturday March 14 @ 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
This course gives participants an overview of the structure and organization of The United Methodist Church. A copy of the 2016 Book of Discipline is recommended. (Borrow one from your church if possible – no need to purchase one!) Pre-reading of the book is required: The Method of Our Mission by Laceye C. Warner, Participant’s Book / Register Here
An Advanced Lay Servant Class, it also serves as a required course for those seeking to be certified as an Advanced Lay Servant or Lay Speaker. Approval of the participant’s pastor, as well as of the charge conference or church council, is also required for one to become an Advanced Lay Servant or Lay Speaker.
